OutIn Nano 2 Portable Espresso Machine FAQs
Below are frequently asked questions, you may find the answer for yourself.
General | How is Nano 2 different from Nano 1?
Nano 2 is a high-performance evolution of Nano 1, with substantial upgrades to battery life, charging speed, heating power, and extraction.
Key Upgrades
- Longer Battery Life: The upgraded 5,000 mAh (3S), 54 Wh battery system delivers twice the endurance of Nano 1 and brews up to nine cups per charge.*
- 45W USB-C PD Fast Charging: Fully recharges in approximately 100 minutes, compared with 180 minutes for Nano 1.
- 21-bar Pump and 120W Heating: Faster heating and increased pump pressure deliver smooth, full-bodied espresso with rich, velvety crema.
- Upgraded 8 g Coffee Basket: Accommodates a larger dose of ground coffee for a richer, more customizable espresso.
Nano 1 remains a reliable, lightweight choice for everyday brewing, while Nano 2 offers greater power, endurance, and speed for espresso lovers on the go.*Based on heating 50 ml of water from 25°C (77°F) to 93°C (199°F) per brew. Actual performance may vary depending on usage and environmental conditions.
General | How long does the Nano 2 battery last?
A fully charged Nano 2 can brew up to 9 cups when heating room-temperature water or perform over 600 extractions when using preheated water. Actual battery life may vary depending on the water temperature, serving size, environmental conditions, and usage.
The 9 cups result is based on heating 50 ml of water from 25°C to 93°C per brew under internal OutIn Lab testing conditions.
General | Can I make espresso anywhere with Nano 2
Yes. Nano 2 is compact, cordless, and approximately the size of a standard water bottle, making it ideal for travel, outdoor adventures, road trips, camping, and daily commutes. Simply add water and use freshly ground coffee or a Nespresso® Original Line-compatible capsule. Its built-in heating system can heat room-temperature water, so you do not need a kettle or electrical outlet while brewing.
General | Can I use the Nano 1 Basket Plus with Nano 2
No. The original Nano 1 Basket Plus is not compatible with Nano 2. We will release a dedicated Basket Plus for Nano 2 soon, designed specifically to fit Nano 2. Please stay tuned for the official release.
General | How much pressure does the Nano 2 produce?
The Nano 2 uses a high-pressure pump rated at up to 21 bar, helping produce aromatic espresso with a rich crema. For a more concentrated flavor, we recommend using approximately 50 ml of water.
General | Does Nano 2 use a pressurized or non-pressurized filter basket?
The Nano 2 uses a proprietary integrated basket-and-portafilter design, so it does not fit neatly into the traditional pressurized or non-pressurized basket categories. The system is engineered to provide consistent extraction, smooth texture, and rich flavor in a compact format.
General | Does it fit with the DG capsule (Dolce Gusto)?
No, it doesn't fit with DG capsule, but it's compatible with the Original Line.
Charging | Can I charge the Nano 2 from a 220–240 V power outlet?
Yes. The Nano 2 can be charged from a 220–240 V outlet when used with a compatible USB-C power adapter. For the fastest charging performance, we recommend a USB-C PD adapter capable of delivering 20 V / 2.25 A (45 W).
Charging | Why is my OutIn Nano 2 not charging?
For reliable charging, use a USB-C PD wall adapter capable of delivering 20 V / 2.25 A (45 W). Low-power adapters, such as older 5 W phone chargers, may charge the Nano 2 extremely slowly or may not provide sufficient power. If the issue continues, try another USB-C cable in case the original cable has been damaged. For additional assistance, contact support@outin.com.
Charging | Can I use either a USB-C-to-USB-C cable or a USB-A-to-USB-C cable?
The Nano 2 charges through USB-C. For full 45 W USB-C PD fast charging, use a compatible USB-C-to-USB-C cable and USB-C PD power adapter. A USB-A-to-USB-C connection may provide slower charging and generally will not support the full 45 W charging rate.
Charging | Can I use the Nano 2 while it is charging?
No. Do not operate the Nano 2 while it is charging. Simultaneous charging and brewing may activate the over-temperature protection system. Disconnect the charging cable before use.
Operation and Care | How should I clean the machine?
Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp sponge or cloth. Do not immerse the main body in water or rinse it with boiling water. After cleaning, allow all removable parts and the water tank to dry completely before long-term storage.
Operation and Care | What should I do if the machine does not stop automatically after extraction?
The Nano 2 should stop automatically after extraction. If it continues running, briefly press the power button once to stop the cycle manually.
Operation and Care | What do five flashing indicator lights and three beeps mean?
This pattern indicates that the battery level is too low. Recharge the Nano 2 before using it again.
Operation and Care | Do the indicator lights remain active during heating?
This pattern indicates that the battery level is too low. Recharge the Nano 2 before using it again.
Operation and Care | Can I put milk or other liquids in the Nano 2 water tank
No. The Nano 2 is designed to heat water only. Do not add milk or any other liquids to the water tank. To make a latte or cappuccino, brew your espresso first, then add milk to your cup.
Ground Coffee | Why does my espresso taste weak or watery when I use ground coffee?
Weak or incomplete extraction may occur when:
- The ground-coffee basket or portafilter assembly is not installed or tightened correctly.
- The grind is too coarse, allowing water to flow through too quickly.
- The grind is too fine or the coffee is over-tamped, restricting water flow.
- The coffee dose is too low.
Use freshly ground, espresso-appropriate coffee, distribute it evenly in the basket, tamp gently, and make sure the complete assembly is securely installed.
Ground Coffee | What grind size should I use for espresso?
- Too coarse: Water flows too quickly, producing weak espresso with little crema.
- Too fine: Water flow may become restricted, causing slow or failed extraction and potentially excessive bitterness.
For best results with the OutIn Fino Grinder, start at setting 2-1 and adjust slightly finer or coarser based on the beans, roast level, freshness, and your taste preference. These settings are a starting point, and some adjustment may be required.
Capsules | Is the Nano 2 compatible with capsules other than Nespresso capsules?
The Nano 2 is designed for Nespresso® Original Line-compatible capsules, also known as NS Original capsules. Compatible options may include capsules from Nespresso®, L'OR, Jacobs, Lavazza, Kimbo, and Café Royal when they follow the Original Line format. It is not compatible with Nespresso® Vertuo or Dolce Gusto capsules.Insert the capsule firmly into the capsule adapter before extraction.
Capsules | Do I need to pierce the capsule before brewing?
No. The included capsule adapter automatically pierces compatible Nespresso® Original Line capsules during the brewing process.
